This is the story of George's battle with his cancer, from when I first learned of it in June 1998 (although at the time we didn't yet know it was cancer) until his death on 5 March 1999. It is composed of notes he wrote friends and me; notes I wrote friends; information from notes I took during various meetings with doctors and hospital stays; and my own comments.
Some of the images in here are
disturbing. Especially if you knew George, you might think about whether
you want to read it.
I originally slapped this together in a couple of weeks, in September 1999. It was pretty choppy.
1 Mar 2000 update: I have been going through this in bits and pieces for a while, making it more readable. Once it's more readable with the current content, I'll go through and see what else I want to add in... Have some ideas, will have to see where/whether they fit... Then...? Dunno...
15 Aug 2000 update: I did finish reworking the writing a couple of months ago. It's still not quite as readable as I'd like, but more so than it was before. What's on this site is still the initial version. Still not quite sure what to do with it...
19 Nov 2000 update: last
night I found a utility which can convert files to PDF files. So that's
what I've done with the reworked version. It's 182 pages long (345k), and
you can click
here to load
it. (If you need Acrobat Reader, it's free, and you can get it
here.)
The older version which was on this site has been removed.
If anybody actually reads this,
you're welcome to send me questions or comments at .
